Contraceptive Methods
Hormonal Methods
- Combined Oral Contraceptives (COCs): contain estrogen and progestin, preventing ovulation and thickening cervical mucus
- Progestin-Only Pills (POPs): contain only progestin, thickening cervical mucus and preventing ovulation
- Contraceptive Patch: releases estrogen and progestin through the skin, preventing ovulation and thickening cervical mucus
- Contraceptive Ring: releases estrogen and progestin into the vagina, preventing ovulation and thickening cervical mucus
- Injectable Contraceptives: contain progestin, thickening cervical mucus and preventing ovulation
Barrier Methods
- Male Condoms: prevent sperm from reaching the egg
- Female Condoms: prevent sperm from reaching the egg
- Diaphragm: covers the cervix, preventing sperm from reaching the egg
- Cervical Cap: covers the cervix, preventing sperm from reaching the egg
- Spermicides: kill sperm, preventing fertilization
Intrauterine Devices (IUDs)
- Copper IUDs: release copper, preventing sperm from reaching the egg
- Hormonal IUDs: release progestin, thickening cervical mucus and preventing ovulation
