Pambansang Alagad ng Sining ng Pilipinas (National Artist of the Philippines)

- According to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) rules, the award is every three years
- Circumstances may result in award given the following year or not at all

Criteria
- An announcement will be made by the NCCA and the CCP as the Order of the National Artists Award Secretariats, for the opening of nominations
- Nominees must have the following qualifications:
- Artist must be a Filipino citizen at the time of nomination
- A deceased artist can be nominated, as long as they were Filipino prior to death
- An artist should have contributed "to building a Filipino sense of nationhood" through their works
- The artist should have led the way with new and creative expressions or styles, and influencing other artists
- The artist's work should be noteworthy, embodiment of excellence, enriching their chosen field
- Critically acclaimed and accepted by legitimate institutions and peers
Other Benefits National Artists Receive
- Title and rank of a National Artist
- Medal bearing the insignia of National Artist and a citation
- Cash gift of PHP100,000.00 to the living artist and PHP75,000.00 for those recognized after death (given to heir)
