- A peripheral device is an ancillary device used to input and output information from a computer.
- There are three categories of peripheral devices based on their relationship with the computer:
Input Devices
- Input devices send data or instructions to the computer, examples include:
- Mouse
- Keyboard
- Graphics tablet
- Image scanner
- Barcode reader
- Game controller
- Light pen
- Light gun
- Microphone
- Digital camera
- Webcam
- Dance pad
- Read-only memory
Output Devices
- Output devices provide output from the computer, examples include:

Input/Output Devices
- Input/output devices perform both input and output functions, examples include:
