Types of computer networks

  • LAN/Local Area Network: is a local area network and it connects devices in a small area (like a house or office).
  • MAN/Metropolitan Area Network: is a metropolitan area network that covers a city or region.
  • WAN/Wide Area Network: is a wide area network, connecting devices globally.
  • PAN/Personal Area Network: is a personal area network, connecting nearby devices (like bluetooth).
  • CAN/Campus Area Network: a campus area network covers universities or corporations. SAN/Storage Area Network: a storage area network that connects servers for data management.
  • VPN/Virtual Private Network: a virtual private network which protects and encrypts connections on the internet.
