Local Area Networks (LAN)
A LAN is a network confined to a single location such as your home, office building, or campus. It connects various devices like desktops, laptops, printers, smartphones, and more via cables or wireless connections. Some common types of wired connections within a LAN include Ethernet (RJ45 cable) and USB. Wireless technologies include Wi-Fi standards like IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax. These components allow users to share resources, send messages, and access data stored on remote machines. Routers and Switches
To manage traffic between different computing devices in a LAN, routers function as gateways and forward packets from one device or another according to specified rules called routing tables. When a packet must travel throughout multiple devices before reaching its destination, routers typically make decisions based on IP addresses found inside the data packages.
On the contrary, switches serve to distribute data frames among attached computers within the same LAN segment. Wide Area Networks (WAN)

Routing Protocols
Routing protocols dictate the manner in which routers communicate amongst themselves to determine optimal pathways for transmitting data. Static routes require manual configuration while dynamic ones, such as RIP (Routing Information Protocol) or OSPF (Open Shortest Path First), automatically exchange routing table updates with neighboring nodes. Adjustments made by routers through routing protocols ensure efficient usage of available bandwidth and improve overall performance within both LANs and WANs.
