Input Devices

Input devices are hardware components that allow users to provide data or instructions to a computer system.

Types of Input Devices

1. Keyboard

• Primary input device for text-based data
• Consists of keys for typing, navigation, and function keys
• Variety of keyboard layouts (e.g., QWERTY, AZERTY)

2. Pointing Devices

• Mouse: tracks movement and clicks to interact with graphical user interface (GUI)
• Trackball: stationary ball controlled by hand to move cursor
• Touchpad: built-in pointing device on laptops, uses gestures and taps
• Touchscreen: display responds to touch input

3. Scanning and Reading Devices

• Barcode Scanner: reads barcode information using laser or camera
• Optical Scanner: reads text or images using optical character recognition (OCR)
• RFID Reader: reads radio frequency identification tags
