Study Notes
Epithelial Tissue
- Non-striated involuntary muscle is controlled by the autonomic nervous system.
- Found in the walls of hollow organs such as the stomach, intestines, bladder, liver, pancreas, and uterus.
- Present in the walls of blood and lymph vessels.
Connective Tissue: Areolar
- Loose or areolar connective tissue surrounds blood vessels and nerves.
- Penetrates small spaces of muscles, tendons, and other tissues.
- Located beneath the epidermis layer.
Muscular Tissue: Striated Muscle
- Striated muscle, also known as skeletal muscle, is found in the walls of the heart.
- Appears striped due to its structure and is under involuntary control.
- Located underneath the epithelial tissue of all body systems.
Nervous Tissue
- Comprised of nerve cells, which carry signals throughout the body.
Human Cardiac Muscle
- Also known as myocardium, makes up the thick layer of the heart.
- Characterized as striated involuntary muscle.
Human Adipose Tissue
- Contains collagen and elastic fibers, filled with lipids (fats).
- Found under the skin (subcutaneous fat) and packed around internal organs (visceral fat).
- Present between muscles, within bone marrows, and in breast tissue.
Smooth Muscle
- Contains nuclei; human blood cells do not have nuclei.
- Composed of plasma, red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC), and platelets.
Connective Tissues: Cartilage
- Dense connective tissue includes collagen fibers that are closely packed.
- Found in ligaments, tendons, the inner layer of the skin, and the sclera (white outer layer of the eye).
Elastic Cartilage
- Located in external ears, eustachian tubes, and larynx.
- Provides support and maintains the shape of structures like the ear lobe and epiglottis.
Hyaline Cartilage
- Found at articular surfaces of movable joints and in walls of respiratory tracts (nose, larynx, trachea, bronchi).
- Present at the end of ribs, costal cartilages, and epiphyseal plates of long bones.
Bone Tissue
- Composed of spongy tissue, contributing to the hard structure of bones.
