Company Tour Inspection Procedure
- Monthly company tours are mandatory, with one tour per company per shift.
- For stations with multiple companies, Officers-in-Charge should include all apparatus in the same tour to improve quality.
Scheduling Company Tours
- Tours must be scheduled at agreeable times between Fire Department personnel and property owners/occupants.
- Any cancellations need to be rescheduled promptly by the Officer-in-Charge.
- Assistance from a District Fire Marshal during a tour can be requested if deemed beneficial.
- Officers must notify volunteer companies 48 hours prior to a tour in their district.
- Battalion/Division Chief must be informed by Company Commanders of scheduled tours.
Reporting Fire Violations
- Immediate reporting of fire violations to the Officer-in-Charge is required by personnel.
- The Officer-in-Charge should address unsafe conditions by explaining potential dangers and suggesting remedies.
- Report all infractions of the fire code to the Fire Marshal’s Office using the Fire Inspection Report form.
Availability and Training
- Companies must remain available during the tours; if out of their first-due district, they should inform Fire Dispatch of their status.
- A review of the completed tour, including visuals, should follow shortly after and can serve as station training.
Record Keeping and Fire Prevention
- All tour records must be maintained in the station ledger.
- During Fire Prevention Week, school fire drills can qualify as Company Tours, contingent on a building inspection.
