Study Notes
Examination Policy
- A second examination for outgoing students will be held post eighth semester results, only for candidates who have cleared the seventh semester.
- Candidates must maintain a minimum of 85% attendance in theory and practical classes to be eligible for examinations.
- If attendance is below the required threshold, students must take re-admission in the following semester to meet academic requirements.
- Attendance waivers can be granted: 10% by the principal and an additional 5% from the Kulpati.
- Participation in NCC/KSS camps or intercollegiate/university competitions counts as full attendance.
- Students must independently verify that they meet attendance requirements before examinations, as admission depends on it.
Examination Preparation and Conduct
- A preparation leave of ten days is standard prior to written examinations.
- Each semester includes separate theory and practical exams, with minimum passing marks set as 35% (theory), 50% (practical), and 60% (sessional marks).
- To pass a semester, students need at least 50% of the total aggregate marks.
- Candidates can re-appear in a maximum of two theory papers of their choice to compensate for any aggregate deficiencies.
- A deficiency of up to 50% can be condoned to assist candidates.
Subject Carryover and Examination Eligibility
- Students can carry subjects (both theory and practical) to higher semesters, needing to clear only those in which they fell short in the previous semester.
- Admission to subsequent semesters (V, VI, VII, and VIII) is contingent upon passing the preceding semesters.
- Candidates with incomplete seventh semester subjects will have their eighth semester results withheld until all subjects are passed.
Division Awards and Course Structure
- Divisions will be awarded to students after completing even semesters (2nd, 4th, and 6th) and will include marks from odd semesters.
- The Bachelor of Engineering program spans four years and consists of eight semesters, following a specific examination scheme.
- The academic year is divided into odd and even semesters, typically starting in July and December respectively.
- Fresh admissions occur only in the first semester, governed by combined entrance testing, with some exceptions for government-controlled admissions.
- University examinations are held at the end of each semester, usually in November/December for odd semesters and April/May for even semesters, covering all subjects taught.
Special Considerations
- In cases of serious illness during exams, students can gain admission to the next higher semester based on satisfactory medical documentation provided before exams.
