What is Color?
- Color is perception
- Objects reflect light in different wavelengths
- Brains interpret these combinations as color
The History of Color Theory
- Color theory principles were evident in the writings of Leone Battista Alberti (c. 1435) and Leonardo da Vinci (c. 1490)
- Sir Isaac Newton developed the first color wheel in the 17th century
What is Color Theory?
- Color theory is the art and science of using color
- Explains how humans perceive color (physical and psychological), how colors mix, and communicate through colors
Color Mixing
- CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black): Used for print process
- RGB (Red, Green, Blue): Used for light generated model
- Grey Scale (black and white): Black and white only
- HSB (Hue, Saturation, Black): Hue (color), saturation (amount of color), black (tint and shade)
Color Properties
- Cool colors (blue, purple, and green): calmness, trust, stability
