Class 8 All Subjects: Social Studies

Social studies is a core subject taught from primary level to Grade 12 as per the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) of India, which has been implemented since 2005. Chapter 1: Understanding Society

Chapter 6: World History

The course will cover global history, starting from the earliest civilizations up to recent times. This includes studying major historical periods, empires, and their impacts on present-day societies.

Chapter 7: Indian History 2: Ancient India

After discussing various ancient civilizations, students will now focus on Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic Civilization, and Mahajanpads. They will explore significant developments during this period, including art, trade, religion, and philosophy.

Chapter 8: Indian History 3: Medieval India

Moving forward, students will delve deeper into medieval India, focusing on the emergence of Hindu and Muslim rule, the establishment of the Delhi Sultanate, and contributions made by scholars and rulers during this era.

Chapter 9: Indian History 4: Modern India

From the establishment of the British East India Company through independence, students will learn about key events and figures that shaped modern India. They will discuss the influence of colonialism and resistance movements like the Quit India Movement.

Chapter 10: Indian History 5: Contemporary India

Finally, students will look at contemporary India, discussing issues related to democracy, development, diversity, environment, security, and culture. They will reflect upon current challenges faced by Indian society and explore possible solutions.

Non-Curriculum Material

Additionally, under non-curriculum material, topics like human rights, environmental studies, and various forms of media will be explored. Students will learn about different types of human rights and their significance, environmental challenges, and the role of media in society.

Assessment

Assessment for this subject includes formative assessments such as quizzes and unit tests, as well as summative assessments like term-end examinations.
