Potential Benefits of Circumcision

    • Ca penis
    • UTI

    • Ca cervix (males with intact prepuce are purported to be carriers of human papillovirus)

Surgical Technique

  • Use of clamps:
    • Gomco
    • Mogen
    • (Bone)
  • Use of plastibel
  • Free hand operation
  • Prepuce is dilated and freed from the underlying glans penis
  • Freed preputial skin is pulled distally over the glans on 2 pairs of forceps
  • Clamp is applied distal to the glans
  • Prepuce is excised flush the clamp

Pain Management

  • Controversial issue
  • No anaesthesia
  • Use of LA:
    • EMLA cream (Eutectic Mixture of Local Anaesthetics; lidocaine & prilocaine)
