Study Notes

First CICM missionaries arrived in the Philippines on November 02, 1907.
The first Provincial Superior served from 1909 to 1915.
Currently, there are 60 CICM mission stations throughout the Philippines.
World War II severely affected the CICM mission; missionaries were imprisoned, killed, and missing, and many churches and schools were destroyed.

The core principle emphasizes the need for missionaries to go where they are most needed.
Aims to give the Gospel relevance in the life experiences of the community.
Focuses on spreading the Good News through education and church structure.

Reverend Father Pieter Dierickx (1862-1946):
- Birth: May 29, 1862, in Belgium; ordained on September 21, 1884.
- Served as a missionary in China for 10 years before leading missions in the Philippines.
Reverend Father Henri Verbeeck (1879-1938):
- Birth: October 03, 1879; ordained on October 14, 1906.
- Known for humility and service to the poor; unified his community through preaching.
Reverend Father Seraphin Devesse (1883-1945):
- Birth: April 28, 1883; ordained on October 14, 1906.
- Youngest pioneer; built the first Catholic Church named St. Patrick Church and focused on working-class youth education.
Reverend Father Oktaaf Vandewalle (1879-1968):
- Birth: May 30, 1879; ordained on July 16, 1905.
- A prominent philosopher and parish priest, served various locations in the Philippines.

Christians are identified as followers of Christ, striving for a deeper understanding of Jesus.
Jesus is portrayed as a symbolic manifestation of divine love, referred to as "Ursakrament" (German for central sacrament).
Karl Rahner highlighted Jesus as the ultimate representative of God's presence and action for humanity.

Prophets, referred to as "Neviim" in Hebrew, act as mouthpieces of God and embody holiness.
They held authority to counsel and warn leaders about their responsibilities.
Jesus exemplifies unity with God the Father, revealing divine nature to humanity and fulfilling the role of a prophet.

Sacraments symbolize and effect spiritual realities, facilitating interpersonal encounters between God and individuals.
Jesus is recognized as the Sacrament of God, through whom divine encounters occur, and the Church also acts as the Sacrament of Jesus for the community.
