  • "Church Going" is a poem by the English poet Philip Larkin (1922–1985), a modern post-war writer.
  • The poem is a best-loved but abstract poem with several critical responses.
  • The poem is a medium length lyrical piece that explores the issue of the church as a spiritual base, using devices as rhyme, meter, form, figuration, metaphor, pun, alliteration etc.
