Biscuits

  • Friend of the boy also told Alem to get them and shouted at him.
  • Then, Tom arrived.
  • The boy looks amazed.
  • Tom tells the boy to apologize, which he does unconvincingly.
  • Tom tells the boy not to try and get someone's biscuits again and states that the boys can not force anyone to give anything if they do not want to give it themselves.

Computer Game

  • After about fifteen minutes, the three boys appear in front of Alem while he is watching some boys playing computer games.

  • When they're a safe distance away Alem checks out their size.
  • He does not feel intimidated by them.
  • Clenches his fists defiantly and turns to watch as the boys continue playing the computer game.
  • At ten o'clock all boys are instructed to stop what they are doing and go to bed.
  • Still made no friends and only enemies.

Sharing a Room

  • Upon arrival to the room, a boy is found in the room playing with a Gameboy.
  • The boy stops when he sees Alem.
  • Boy asks Alem what his name is.
  • Alem does the same.
  • The boy says he is Stanley Burton, and he begins to frantically speak without a pause.
  • Stanley states that he's been there for ten months now and was told he would be staying long.
  • Stanley also says it is mean there and the boys disappears and nobody knows where they go.
  • Stanley's father died in the Gulf War, the newspaper said he died a hero.
  • Stanley continues ranting about how he wants to die a hero like his father and have his picture on the paper.

Stanley Burton

  • Stanley tells Alem that his mother is not dead however, she cannot cope.
  • She is in a place for big people, and his sister is in a place for girls too.
  • Alem grabs his bag out of the room.
  • It was the quickest Alem had moved all day.
  • Alem is trying to find a sink to wash his face, they were all busy.
  • The boys are are noisy and telling jokes Alem doesn't understand.

Mustafa's Warning

  • Then Mustafa comes up to Alem and says "Watch out, Sweeney is going to get you. Just watch yu back and don't mek him tek any liberties wid yu."
  • Alem looks around and begins to head to the room.
  • Back in the room, Stanley is found to be in back already in bed.
  • Alem attempts to go about getting into bed without disturbing him.
  • He removes the family photo from his bag and gets changed into the worn-out pajamas.

Lights Out

  • Stanley takes off verbally again.
  • Stanley says the lights will go off in 10 minutes or he can turn them off himself; he usually waits for a member of staff.
  • Staff don't do too much and Stanley suggests they should let them do their work.
  • Stanley asks if Alem has been in a helicopter and if he has ever touched a gun.
  • Dave comes into the doorway and state this is too much.

  • The doors close up and down the corridors from Dave and Tom.

  • Later into the night Alem he was woken up by the sound of Stanley crying and talking.

The Morning After
