- Childbirth has three stages
- The Apgar scale measures a newborn's health, from 0-2 points for each of 5 vital signs:
- Appearance
- Pulse
- Grimace
- Activity
- Respiration
- A score of 7 to 10 on the Apgar scale is considered normal
- A score of 4 to 7 requires resuscitative measures
- An Apgar score under 4 requires immediate resuscitation
Childbirth Stages
- There are three stages of childbirth
Apgar Scale
- The Apgar scale measures a newborn’s health at one and five minutes after birth
- The scale measures five signs: appearance, pulse, grimace, activity, and respiration
- Each sign is given a score of 0, 1, or 2 points
- A score of 7-10 is considered normal
- A score of 4-7 requires resuscitative measures
- A score under 4 requires immediate resuscitation
