Chicken Pox Rash

  • Rash appears with pleomorphism, meaning all stages of the rash (papules, vesicles, and rush) may be seen simultaneously at one time in the same area.
  • The rash is characterized as 'dew drop' rash.

Complications

  • Hemorrhages, Pneumonia, Encephalitis, acute cerebellar ataxia, and Reye's syndrome can occur.
  • Immuno-compromised patients are at increased risk of complications.

Treatment

  • Supportive and symptomatic treatment is available.
  • Oral Acyclovir 800 mg 5 times a day is recommended.
