    Study Notes

Chemistry is a science that deals with the study of substances and their structure, behavior, and the processes that these substances experience. It is traditionally divided into five main subdisciplines: organic, inorganic, analytical, physical, and biochemistry[1-3]

Organic chemistry is a subfield of chemistry that involves studying the molecules of life, mainly composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and a few other elements[1-4] Organic chemists are concerned with synthesizing new molecules and developing new methods for their synthesis[1-4] Physical organic chemistry is a subfield of organic chemistry that deals with the interrelationships between structure and reactivity in organic compounds

Inorganic chemistry, on the other hands, is the study of compounds that are not carbon- based, such as transition metals, alkaline metals, and halogens Some areas of inorganic chemistry that are especially important are catalysis, materials chemistry, and bioinorganic chemistry

Physical chemistry is the study of the physical and fundamental basis of chemical systems and processes It is concerned with how energy and atoms/molecules interact, often with a focus on the use of maths

Inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry are the most fundamental branches of chemistry, with physical chemistry being the most fundamental of all These branches of chemistry are interdisciplinary and feed into each other, with a good grounding in all of them being needed to be a good chemist[4
