  • Characterization is the quality of a character disclosed through actions, descriptions, dramatic statements, thoughts, and statements by other characters or the author.

Setting

  • Setting is the overall context of a story, including where, when, and in what circumstances the action occurs.
  • Setting has three aspects: place, time, and cultural context.
  • Setting as Place: The physical environment where the story takes place.
  • Setting as Time: Includes time in all its dimensions, considering historical events and social and political issues.
  • Setting as Cultural Context: Involves the social circumstances of the time and place.
  • Effects of Setting: Creates atmosphere, gives insight into characters, and provides connections to other aspects of the story.

Elements of Drama

  • Elements of drama are the components used to make up a work of literature.
  • Characters in drama can be human, supernatural, divine, mythical, animal, or personification of an abstraction.

Plot

  • Plot is the serial arrangement of incidents, events, or ideas.
  • It encompasses all incidents and provides aesthetic pleasure.
  • The plot consists of:
