The cell cycle is divided into two main stages in eukaryotic cells. Name and briefly describe these two stages.
The two main stages of the cell cycle in eukaryotic cells are interphase and mitosis. Interphase is the stage during which the cell grows, accumulates nutrients needed for mitosis, and replicates its DNA and some of its organelles. Mitosis is the stage during which the replicated chromosomes, organelles, and cytoplasm separate into two new daughter cells.
What are cell cycle checkpoints and what is their role in the cell cycle?
What are cell cycle checkpoints and what is their role in the cell cycle?
Cell cycle checkpoints are control mechanisms that determine if the cell can progress to the next phase of the cell cycle. They are located after each of the key steps of the cycle and ensure the proper replication of cellular components and division.
What are the events that take place in a cell during the cell cycle?
What are the events that take place in a cell during the cell cycle?
The events that take place in a cell during the cell cycle include the duplication of its DNA (DNA replication) and some of its organelles, as well as the partitioning of its cytoplasm, chromosomes, and other components into two daughter cells in a process called cell division.
