Study Notes
Types of Motion
- There are three types of motion.
- Motion can be divided into three main categories.
Motion of Planets
- Planets around the sun exhibit orbital motion.
- Orbital motion is a type of circular motion.
Rectilinear/Translatory Motion
- Rectilinear or translatory motion is a type of motion where an object moves in a straight line.
- This type of motion occurs when an object moves from one point to another in a straight path.
Periodic Motion
- Periodic motion is a type of motion that repeats after fixed intervals of time.
- Examples of periodic motion include the motion of a pendulum, a spinning top, and the Earth's rotation.
Circular Motion
- The path of circular motion is circular or elliptical in shape.
- Circular motion can be either orbital or rotational.
