Study Notes

Cardiovascular Tasks

  • Electrocardiograms (ECGs) and photoplethysmograms (PPGs) are used to understand the heart's functioning and detect heart beats.
  • Interbeat intervals (IBIs) can be computed from these waveforms.
  • Five cardiovascular tasks are involved:
    • Computing average heart rate (HR) from instantaneous HR measurements.
    • Calculating average heart rate from interbeat intervals.
    • Classifying atrial fibrillation from IBIs.
    • Classifying sinus bradycardia from IBIs.
    • Classifying sinus tachycardia from IBIs.

Datasets

  • The MIT-BIH Atrial Fibrillation Database and the MIMIC-III dataset are used for cardiovascular tasks.
  • These datasets are collected from IRB-approved studies with informed consent from all research subjects.
  • 25 samples of each class are used for training and 100 samples for testing.

Experiments

  • Results of 3, 10, and 25-shot experiments are shown for nine health tasks.
  • Prompts include IBI sequences (in milliseconds) and the model is asked to provide:
    • Instantaneous heart rate (A).
    • Average heart rate in beats per minute (B).
    • Presence or absence of atrial fibrillation (D).
    • Presence or absence of slowed heart rate/bradycardia (E).
    • Presence or absence of elevated heart rate/tachycardia (F).

Metabolic Tasks

  • Assessing energy expenditure is essential for health and wellness monitoring.
  • Estimating calories burned based on physical activity is a complex calculation that requires multiple factors.

Given a sequence of heart rates, calculate the average heart rate. This quiz assesses your understanding of instantaneous heart rate and average heart rate. Test your skills and knowledge in this topic.
