Bronchial Asthma Symptoms
- Coughing and expectoration of white viscous sputum
- Inability to speak
- Chest tightness
- Bradycardia
- Hyperinflation of thorax, voluntary at first to dilate airways; secondarily as a result of incomplete emptying
- Markedly reduced FEV1 (forced expiratory volume)
- Attacks typically last from a few minutes to several hours and are often associated with exercise or sleep.
- Palpation and percussion are usually normal although the chest can be hyper resonant.
- On auscultation, diffuse expiratory wheezes with an increased expiratory time are often heard.
