Body Worn Cameras (BWC) - Policies and Procedures
- Activation Requirements: Officers must activate BWC systems and record all incidents involving the public, including but not limited to traffic stops, arrests, use of force, and calls for service.
- Non-Recording Exceptions: Officers are not required to record interactions with the public in specific situations, including:
- Discussions/briefs regarding tactics and/or strategies
- Non-enforcement related activities unless:
- Recording is required by a court order
- Authorized as part of an administrative or criminal investigation
- Confidentiality: Officers are prohibited from recording:
- Confidential informants or undercover officers
- Department personnel during routine, non-enforcement related activities unless required by court order or investigation
- Privacy: Officers are not allowed to record in locations where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy, including:
- Restrooms
- Locker rooms
- Detention or hospital facilities
- BWC Usage During Outside Employment: Officers working outside employment with police service detail/PVO must follow specific BWC procedures, including:
- Recording: BWC systems are not required to be docked unless the officer was involved in an incident needing investigation by a supervisor.
- Supervisory Review: District Commanders are responsible for assigning BWC video reviews for all officers.
