Blood Service Facilities
- Hospital Blood Bank - Licensed by the DOH BHFS, and stores blood and blood components obtained from a blood center or another hospital.
- Hospital Blood Station - Authorized by the DOH CHD, provides whole blood and packed red cells, and performs compatibility testing of red cell units if based in a hospital.
- End-User Hospital (EU) - Licensed clinical laboratory but does not have a blood service facility
- End-User Non-Hospital Health Facility - Licensed or accredited without a clinical laboratory but provides blood or blood components
- Includes renal dialysis centers, ambulatory surgical clinics, and birthing centers.
National Reference Laboratories (NRL)
- For Immunology: Confirmatory blood donor and blood unit testing is done at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
- For Immunohematology: Confirmatory blood donor and blood unit testing is done at the National Kidney and Transfusion Institute (NKTI).
Funding Provisions
- NCBS receives funding from:
- Budgetary allocations from the National Government
- National Government financing agencies such as the PCSO and PAGCOR
