Accessing Blackboard Learn™
- Access requires a username and password
- Users can log in with their Lamar Electronic Account (LEA)
- Do not include @lamar.edu to your username when logging in
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is available, requiring an authenticator app
- Recommended apps: Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, or Authy
- MFA setup involves scanning a QR code or copying a key into the app, then entering the generated code
Account Security
- There has been an increase in attempted scam messages via email and texts which include urgent messages warning users that they will lose account access.
- Scams often involve requests for login information, personal details, or task completion (e.g., filling out forms, purchasing gift cards).
- To protect your account:
- Avoid clicking links or completing forms from unknown sources; validate suspicious messages by emailing [email protected]
- No outside company can disable a school account

Course Enrollment and Availability
- Students are automatically enrolled in courses 24 hours after registration
- Courses are typically visible in Blackboard two weekdays before the course start date
- New students gain Blackboard access two weekdays before their first course begins
Preferred Name Display
- Blackboard displays usernames according to the preferred name recorded in Self-Service Banner, in accordance with Lamar University policy.
- Update Preferred First Name in Banner Self-Service if the display name is incorrect
- Access personal information via LU Connect, then click on "Banner Self-Service."
Attendance Verification
- Regular class attendance/participation is important to the attainment of educational objectives
- Beginning in Fall 2019, verification of attendance will be accomplished through the use of an attendance assignment in each Blackboard course, for both online and on-campus courses
- Failure to complete the assignment by the census date may result in adjusted or cancelled financial aid awards
