The First Month and the Passover

  • The first month of the year is designated as the beginning of months.
  • The people of Israel are instructed to take a lamb on the tenth day of the first month, according to their household.

The Lamb

  • The lamb must be without blemish, a male of the first year.
  • It can be taken from the sheep or goats.
  • The lamb must be kept until the fourteenth day of the month.

The Passover

  • The whole assembly of Israel shall kill the lamb in the evening of the fourteenth day.
  • The blood of the lamb must be struck on the two side posts and the upper door post of the houses.
  • The people of Israel must eat the flesh of the lamb in that night, roasted with fire, with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.
  • They must not eat the lamb raw or boiled in water, but roasted with fire.

The LORD's Passover

  • The LORD will pass through the land of Egypt on the night of the fourteenth day and smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt.
  • The blood on the door posts will serve as a token, and the LORD will pass over the houses with the blood.
  • The plague will not be upon the houses with the blood.

The Feast of Unleavened Bread

  • The people of Israel must eat unleavened bread for seven days, starting from the first day.
  • They must put away leaven from their houses on the first day.
  • Whoever eats leavened bread during the seven days will be cut off from Israel.
  • There will be holy convocations on the first and seventh days, with no work except that necessary for eating.

Observance of the Feast
