- John fell asleep in the sun and woke up with severe sunburn on half of his body
- When he woke up, the beach was empty, with seagulls searching for food and no signs of the ice-cream van or lifeguards
- John estimated the time to be around 5:00 pm and knew it was time to head home
The Rescue
- John spotted a swimmer in distress in the sea and shouted for help before plunging in to rescue the swimmer
- He swam strongly towards the swimmer, thinking "I must be close to him now"
- The swimmer cried "Help me, I've got a cramp" as John reached him
- John reassured the swimmer, "It's OK, mister. I'll get you to shore"
The Aftermath
- John helped the exhausted and weak swimmer onto his boogie board and started swimming back to shore
- He thought, "His leg must still be cramped. Fortunately, the sea is not rough and there's no wave"
- As John reached the shallow water, willing hands appeared to help carry the swimmer ashore
- The swimmer sat down to recover, and a small crowd gathered around him
- John, feeling tired but proud of himself, stood up, grabbed his board, and left, unnoticed by the crowd
