The Hijrah and the Battle of Badr
- Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions escaped from Makkah and settled in Madinah in 622.
- Two years after the Hijrah, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) organized a raid against a wealthy caravan led by Abu Sufyan, the head of the Umayyad dynasty.
The Battle of Badr
- The raiding party, comprising nearly 300 supporters of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), lured the opposing Meccans into a battle at Badr, near Madinah.
- Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) took a handful of dust and blew it into the air, creating a massive whirlwind that dispersed Abu Jahl's army.
- Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prayed to Allah, saying "O Allah! Should this group (of Muslims) be defeated today, You will no longer be worshipped."
- The prayer was answered, as mentioned in the Quran (8:9), with Allah sending a thousand angels to reinforce the Muslim army.
Aftermath of the Battle
- The victory of Muslims against the Quraysh established the former as a formidable force in the region.
- The Quraysh eventually accepted their defeat and surrendered to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in 630.
- The Quran attributes the victory to Allah's divine intervention, stating "And you did not kill them, but it was Allah who killed them." (8:17)
