In a no pulse and no breathing scenario, what should be done after ensuring safety?

Give chest compressions

What should you do if a conscious patient has a pulse but is not breathing?

Provide rescue breaths

In the chain of survival for CPR, what is the first step?

Check for safety

30 compressions to 2 breaths

In a scenario where a victim has no pulse and is not breathing, what is the immediate action that should be taken after calling emergency services?

Begin chest compressions

When performing CPR on a child, where should the rescuer place their hands for chest compressions?

On the lower third of the breastbone

What is the recommended sequence of steps in the chain of survival for an adult victim?

Early recognition, early CPR, early defibrillation, early advanced care

In a scenario where a victim has a pulse but is not breathing, what should be the initial action?

Study Notes

Basic Life Support & CPR

  • Check pulse within 5-10 seconds
  • If no pulse, start CPR and get AED

Recovery Position

  • 4 steps to make recovery position
  • Put the hand closest to you under the head
  • Give CPR: 30 compressions, 2 breaths, and 5-10 seconds

CPR Steps

  • Call 998
  • Check pulse within 10 seconds
  • If no pulse, start CPR
  • 30 compressions, 2 breaths, and 5-10 seconds
  • Continue CPR until AED arrives

Airway Breathing Circulation (ABC)

  • Check for safety first
  • Response: tap the shoulder and shout loudly, "Are you all right?"
  • Airway: open the airway by tilting the head back
  • Breathing: check for breathing
  • Circulation: check pulse

Compression Ratio

  • Adult: 30:2 compression to ventilation ratio

AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

  • Use AED within 10 seconds
  • Do not stop CPR, continue until AED arrives

Important Reminders

  • Remember: 30 compressions, 2 breaths, and 5-10 seconds
  • Use both hands for compression, with one hand on the chest and the other on the back
  • Keep going, don't stop CPR

Test your knowledge on Basic Life Support & CPR techniques including introduction, safety measures, response procedures, airway management, breathing techniques, circulation methods, AED usage, and recovery positions. Understand when to stop CPR and how to handle a victim who wakes up or if you become tired during the process.
