Basic Folk Dance Steps

Arms in Lateral Position: Arms positioned at shoulder, chest, or waist level, either right or left side.

Brush: One foot grounded, another foot hits floor with heel or ball, lifted in any direction.

Crossed Arms: Partners join either left & left, or right & right hands, crossing arms.

Cut: Quickly displace one foot with the other foot.

Do-si-do: Partners advance, pass each other's sides, step over, and return to original positions.

Hayon-hayon: One forearm in front, other at back of waist.

Hop: Spring from one foot, returning to same foot.

Jaleo: Partners turn clockwise (right elbows) or counterclockwise (left elbows) with dance steps.

Jump: Spring from one or both feet, landing on both feet.

Kumintang: Moving hands clockwise or counterclockwise from the wrist.
