Fainting: Response and Prevention
- Do not give the person food or water immediately after they wake up.
- If you notice specific activities or situations that make you faint, avoid them. This could include standing for long periods, being in hot or crowded places, or certain triggers like specific foods.
- Do not try to stand up quickly if you feel faint. This could make the fainting worse.
- Seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following: sudden fainting without a clear reason, fainting that occurs with chest pain, or fainting accompanied by a loss of bowel or bladder control.
- If you notice how you feel just before you faint, try to lie down or sit down immediately and elevate your legs. This can help increase blood flow to the brain.
- Do not try to get up right away. This can make the fainting worse.
- If you faint while exercising, stop immediately and rest. Once you feel better, slowly resume your workout.
- Do not leave the person alone. Stay with them until they are fully awake and alert.
- If you have frequent fainting spells, contact your doctor to determine the cause and discuss possible solutions.
- If you feel faint and cannot lie down or sit, try to lean against a wall or other stable object. This can help prevent a fall.
