Banksy's Mural in North London

A new Banksy mural appeared on the side of a block of flats in Hornsey Road, near Finsbury Park, north London, and was confirmed by the artist on social media.
The mural is a huge green painting that replicates the absent leaves of a nearby tree, which has been cropped.

Defacement of the Mural

Just three days after its appearance, the mural was defaced with white paint, with two streaks thrown over the green patches.

Council's Response

Islington Council installed fencing and had visits from Park Patrol officers to protect the mural and manage crowds.
The council is discussing future solutions with the homeowner to enable everyone to enjoy the artwork while protecting it, the tree, and the surrounding area.
A CCTV camera is being installed to monitor the area.

Previous Incidents of Vandalism

In August 2021, Banksy's 'Spraycation' mural in Suffolk was covered in white paint, with the vandal caught in the act by security staff.
In March 2021, a Banksy mural on the side of a former prison was defaced with a rival's name.

Banksy's Previous Work

Banksy's last confirmed work before the Finsbury Park tree was a stop sign in Peckham, south London, with three military drones stuck across it.
The Peckham mural was removed less than an hour after its confirmation on social media, with two men arrested on suspicion of theft and criminal damage.

Description

A new Banksy mural in north London has been defaced after appearing just days ago. The huge green painting on the side of a block of flats was first spotted on Sunday. But photos show that just three days after it first appeared, white paint has been thrown over the mural.
