Road Traffic Rules and Signs

  • You MUST obey traffic signals and signs, including those given by uniformed police officers and traffic wardens.

Traffic Lights

  • RED means STOP: wait behind the stop line on the carriageway.
  • RED and AMBER means STOP: do not pass through or start until GREEN shows.
  • AMBER means STOP: stop at the stop line, but you may proceed if you have already crossed the stop line or are very close to it.
  • GREEN means GO ON: proceed if the way is clear, but take special care when turning left or right and give way to pedestrians.
  • GREEN ARROW means GO ON: you may proceed in the direction shown by the arrow, regardless of the light showing.

Before Setting Off

  • YOU MUST hold a valid driving licence for the class of vehicle you are driving (except for non-motorised vehicles).
