Road Traffic Rules and Signs
- You MUST obey traffic signals and signs, including those given by uniformed police officers and traffic wardens.
Traffic Lights
- RED means STOP: wait behind the stop line on the carriageway.
- RED and AMBER means STOP: do not pass through or start until GREEN shows.
- AMBER means STOP: stop at the stop line, but you may proceed if you have already crossed the stop line or are very close to it.
- GREEN means GO ON: proceed if the way is clear, but take special care when turning left or right and give way to pedestrians.
- GREEN ARROW means GO ON: you may proceed in the direction shown by the arrow, regardless of the light showing.
Before Setting Off
- YOU MUST hold a valid driving licence for the class of vehicle you are driving (except for non-motorised vehicles).
- YOU MUST be insured (at least for third party risks).
- YOU MUST be able to see properly, wearing glasses if necessary, and keeping the windscreen clean.
- YOU MUST adjust your seat and mirrors for clear visibility around the vehicle.
- YOU MUST be feeling well, not ill or tired, and not under the influence of medication that may affect your ability to drive safely.
