Road Traffic Rules and Signs

You MUST obey traffic signals and signs, including those given by uniformed police officers and traffic wardens.

Traffic Lights

RED means STOP: wait behind the stop line on the carriageway.
RED and AMBER means STOP: do not pass through or start until GREEN shows.
AMBER means STOP: stop at the stop line, but you may proceed if you have already crossed the stop line or are very close to it.
GREEN means GO ON: proceed if the way is clear, but take special care when turning left or right and give way to pedestrians.
GREEN ARROW means GO ON: you may proceed in the direction shown by the arrow, regardless of the light showing.

Before Setting Off

YOU MUST hold a valid driving licence for the class of vehicle you are driving (except for non-motorised vehicles).
YOU MUST be insured (at least for third party risks).
YOU MUST be able to see properly, wearing glasses if necessary, and keeping the windscreen clean.
YOU MUST adjust your seat and mirrors for clear visibility around the vehicle.
YOU MUST be feeling well, not ill or tired, and not under the influence of medication that may affect your ability to drive safely.
