- Witnessed the Russian Revolution at age twelve

- At 22, she obtained a passport to visit relatives in Chicago
- Rand left Russia in January 1926, never seeing her family again.
- She arrived in New York City with $50
- She changed her name to Ayn Rand to protect her family's identity.
Career
- She went to Hollywood after a few months in Chicago.
- A meeting with Cecil B. DeMille led to work as a movie extra and junior screenwriter.
- She married actor Frank O’Connor, whom shed met on the set of King of Kings and they were married for 50 years.
- She mastered English and wrote screenplays and short stories.
- She had two Broadway plays and published her first novel, We The Living.
