    Study Notes

    Conduct of Engine Ground-Run Training

    • Engine ground-run training can be conducted in an aircraft, simulator, or a combination
    • Training typically includes classroom training, briefings, and debriefings
    • Training should be conducted by a qualified person with assessment and training
    • Training may be limited to a simulator, removing the need for a CASR Part 66 license rating (if conducted in aircraft, a license is required)
    • Must follow appropriate procedures used in the course of normal maintenance
    • Additional documents may be used to assist with learning and consistent assessment
    • Assessors must clearly differentiate training and assessment. Assessments cannot be conducted if the student isn't properly trained
    • Records of all training and assessment must be recorded

    Assessments

    • Satisfactory completion is shown by completing procedures and answering questions related to procedures and engine operation
    • Questions can be asked during pre-run briefings, run sessions, and post-run debriefings.
    • Questions should be presented in context
    • Records must be permanent (stored in training records or personal files) and show the date(s) of training and assessment

    Fuel Tank Safety Training

    • Cover Fuel Tank Safety and Maintenance (entry/exit procedures, environment, configuration control, wire separation, bonding of parts, etc.)
    • Define Flammability Reduction Systems (FRS) (reasons for their presence, effects of Nitrogen, safety with FRS, recording maintenance actions)

    Taxiing Aircraft Authorisation

    • CASR Part 31 and 66 licences do not authorise taxiing
    • Separate taxi approval is needed from a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME)
    • Part 64 is responsible for authorisations of non-licensed personnel for taxiing aircraft. This doesn't require CASA to issue any approval
    • Competency must be re-assessed every 5 years

    Getting a Certificate of Competency
