AI is a branch of computer science that deals with the creation of intelligent agents, which can reason, learn, and act autonomously.

AI research began in the 1950s, with the development of the first AI programs, including the Turing test and the Samuel checkers-playing program.
The 1970s-1980s saw a decline in funding for AI research, known as the "AI winter", due to a lack of progress and overoptimistic predictions.
The 1990s saw a resurgence of AI research, driven by advances in computing power and machine learning algorithms.

Machine learning: a type of AI that allows computers to learn without being explicitly programmed, with the ability to learn from data and improve performance over time.
Deep learning: a type of machine learning that uses artificial neural networks to model complex relationships between data, with applications in image recognition, natural language processing, and speech recognition.
Natural Language Processing (NLP): a field of AI that deals with the interaction between computers and human language, with applications in language understanding, generation, translation, and question answering.
Computer vision: a field of AI that deals with the ability of computers to see and understand the world, with applications in object identification, movement tracking, and facial recognition.
Robotics: a field of engineering that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots, which can sense their environment and take actions in the world.

Self-driving cars: use AI to navigate roads and avoid obstacles.
Facial recognition: used to identify people in images and videos, with applications in security systems and social media.
Natural language processing: used in chatbots, virtual assistants, and machine translation.
Computer vision: used in medical diagnosis, self-checkout systems, and autonomous drones.
Robotics: used in manufacturing, surgery, and customer service.
