Overview of Supagas Work Permit System

• The Work Permit System is implemented for non-routine, hazardous, or external service provider work at Supagas sites to ensure safe working practices.
• All workers, including contractors, must adhere to the Work Permit System, which is designed to be practical and provide a safe system of work at all Supagas facilities.
• The Work Permit System is a tool used to plan and control work that may involve a risk to workers due to the type of work being undertaken or the area/plant/persons in the vicinity.
• The system includes Permit to Work, Hot Work Permit, Working at Heights Permit, and Confined Space Permit, and can be used as a "Critical Control" for Management of Change for activities involving "Urgent" or "Temporary" change situations.
• No permit should proceed without a HAZID or Risk Assessment or JSA for specific activities.
• Work Permits are issued by the Manager/Supervisor for tasks required by State Legislation, Australian Standards and Codes of Practices, all non-routine activities carried out on the site, work done through an external service provider, and tasks that are normally undertaken by employees but have a particularly high element of risk.
• The Work Permit System provides a means for planning and control for work that would otherwise have little or no planning or control.
• The Authorised Permit Issuer is responsible for defining work precautions and work conditions and ensuring that they are adhered to, while the Permit Holder is responsible for complying with the conditions of the Work Permit.
• Supagas operates equipment under high pressure, and care must be taken before any equipment/pipeline is worked on.
• Managers and Supervisors are responsible for actively supporting and complying with the Work Permit System and procedures, enforcing the requirement to use the system, and providing all necessary information and training to personnel.
• Employees and Contractors must actively support and comply with the Work Permit System policy and procedures, undertake training as required, follow Safe Work Instructions, and advise management and supervisors of any hazards associated with the task being performed.
• The Authorised Permit Issuer must be trained and competent in the Work Permit System, with a list of authorised issuers maintained and reviewed yearly by Site Management.
