  • Officer's safety and ability to perform tasks are primary for the agency
  • Inspection of vehicle for safety deficiencies, damage, contraband, and operational condition of equipment is necessary before beginning a tour of duty
  • Minimum inspection requirements include tires, brakes, emergency brake, headlights, turn signals, brake lights, windshield wipers, horn, seatbelts, four-way flasher, spotlight, emergency lights, siren and P.A. system, wig-wag lights, backup lights, interior dome lights, radios, and shotgun/less lethal shotgun and ammunition (if applicable)
  • Any deficiencies found must be immediately reported to the shift supervisor and if determined to be a safety problem, the unit will be sent for repairs and another vehicle will be assigned
  • Fire extinguisher, first aid kit, personal protective equipment, disposable blanket, fingerprint kit, and flares should be checked for accessibility and proper function/expiration at the start of the shift
  • Seat belts must be worn at all times while the vehicle is in operation
  • Any interior or exterior damage must be noted and reported to the supervisor immediately, and a report will be made to the appropriate division commander after an inquiry
