Normal range of haemoglobin is 12.3-15.3 g/dl, below 12.3 indicates anemia.
Hematocrit normal range for female is 36%-44.6% and for men is 41% - 50%.
Hematocrit less than 36% indicates anemia, higher than 44.6% indicates polycythemia or erythrocytosis.
Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) indicates the size of red blood cells, normal range is 80-100 femtoliter.
MCV less than 80 FL indicates microcytic anemia, MCV ranging from 80-100 FL and hematocrit is low indicates aplastic anemia or sudden loss of blood or kidney failure or man-made heart.
MCV more than 100 FL indicates macrocytic anemia due to B12 deficiency, folate deficiency or chemotherapy.
MCH indicates the colour of red blood cells, normal range is 26-36 pg.
MCH lower than 26 pg indicates hypochromic anemia, ranging from 26-36 pg indicates normochromatic anemia.
MCH more than 36 pg indicates hyperchromatic anemia due to B12 deficiency or folate deficiency.
MCHC (mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration) normal range is 31-35 g/dl, more than 35 g/dl indicates autoimmune hemolytic anemia or sickle cell disease or hereditary spherocytosis, less than 31 g/dl indicates iron deficiency or lead poisoning or thalassemia or sideroblastic anemia.
