Path-Goal Theory of Leadership: style should be contingent on situation, based on Expectancy Theory of Motivation. Subordinate characteristics and environment impact leadership style. Leadership styles: directing, coaching, supporting, delegating. Levels of employee development: enthusiastic beginner, disillusioned learner, capable but cautious performer, self-reliant achiever. SLII model is the latest version of the Path-Goal Theory. Original model used different terms. Advantages include taking situation into account, easy to measure LPC and situational factors. Disadvantages include lack of flexibility, subjectivity of LPC scale and situational assessment, and complexity.
