Study Notes
Deep Peroneal Nerve
- Divides into 2 terminal branches
- Cutaneous branches supply skin of the cleft between the 1st and 2nd toes
- Muscular branches supply all 4 muscles of the anterior compartment of the leg
- Articular branches supply the ankle joint
Tibial Nerve
- Continuation of the tibial (medial) popliteal nerve
- Descends between superficial and deep flexors of the back of the leg
- Divides deep to the flexor retinaculum into a medial and lateral plantar nerve
Medial Plantar Nerve
- Larger of the two terminal branches of the tibial nerve
- Muscular branches supply:
- Abductor hallucis
- Flexor digitorum brevis
- Cutaneous branches supply:
- Skin of the medial 2/3 of the sole
- Skin of the plantar surface of the medial 3 ½ toes
Lateral Plantar Nerve
- Smaller of the two terminal branches of the tibial nerve
- Muscular branches supply:
- Abductor digit minimi
- Flexor digitorum accessorius
- All 7 interosseus muscles
- Cutaneous branches supply:
- Skin of the lateral part of the sole
- Skin of the plantar surface of the lateral 1 ½ toes
This quiz covers the anatomy of the deep peroneal nerve, including its branches and the areas it supplies. It also covers the relations and divisions of the nerve.
