Study Notes
Brainstem
- The medulla oblongata is the most inferior part of the brainstem.
Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF)
- CSF is produced through the filtration of blood by the choroid plexus.
- The meninges cover both the brain and the spinal cord.
- CSF is reabsorbed in the arachnoid villi.
- CSF flows in the subarachnoid space.
Neurons
- The proximal end of a neuron has dendrites.
- The neuron's cell body is also called the soma.
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
- The PNS does not include the brain and spinal cord.
- Schwann cells are the glial cells of the PNS that form myelin sheaths.
Ascending Tracts
- Ascending tracts of nervous system fibers carry sensory information from the periphery to the brain.
Sarcomere
- The distance between one z-disc and another z-disc defines one sarcomere.
Connective Tissue
- Perimysium is the connective tissue sheath that covers the fascicles.
- Collagen, reticular, and elastic fibers are protein fibers present in connective tissue.
Anatomy
- Proxmial describes the location of the upper arm to the forearm.
- The dens articulate with the axis.
- The scapula does not articulate with the ribs.
- The Sella turcica is a portion of the sphenoid bone.
- The forearm is inferior to the antecubital region in anatomical position.
- The superior portion of the sternum is the manubrium.
- Lacrimal bones are very small bones forming the medial wall of each orbit.
Cellular Biology
- The stages of interphase are prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
- Cholesterol is present in the plasma membrane.
- The site where a motor neuron terminal meets a muscle fiber is called the neuromuscular junction.
- A triad is formed by two terminal cisternae and one t-tubule.
- Lysosomes contain enzymes that break down and digest cellular components
Tissues
- Hyaline cartilage, fibrocartilage, and elastic cartilage are the main types of cartilage tissue.
- Epithelial tissues are classified according to the shape of the cells and the number of cell layers formed.
- Blood is a connective tissue.
- Most epithelial tissues are large sheets of cells that cover the body's surfaces exposed to the outside world as well as lining the outside of organs.
- Muscle tissue types include smooth, cardiac, and skeletal muscle.
- Skeletal muscle tissue is voluntary.
- Observing epithelial cells that are arranged in a single layer looking tall and narrow, with the nucleus close to the basal side of the cell indicates columnar epithelial tissue
Other
- Japanese word "Umami" does not mean "Sour Taste".
- A muscle with a similar action that assists the prime mover is a synergist.
- The thoracic cavity houses the pleural, pericardial, and peritoneal cavities.
Bone
- The structural unit of compact bone is the osteon.
- Osteocytes are found in lacunae.
- The term popliteus does not refer to the posterior area of the elbow joint.
Membrane Proteins
- Glycoproteins, channel proteins, and receptors are examples of membrane proteins.
Scapula Classification
- The scapula is classified as a flat bone
Epithelia
- High vascularity is not a structural or functional feature of epithelia.
- Goblet cells are be found in columnar epithelium.
Ribs
- Ribs 11 and 12 are not true ribs because they have no anterior attachments.
Mitosis
- Anaphase is the stage of mitosis when sister chromatids are separated, forming individual chromosomes.
Osteoclasts
- Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by a decrease in bone mass
Muscle
- A group of muscle fibers bundled as a unit is called a fascicle.
- Hair is primarily made of dead, keratinized cells
Anatomical Position
- Upper limbs held out to each side is not part of the anatomical position
- The site where a motor neurons terminal meets the muscle fiber is called the neuromuscular junction.
- The sternum is formed by three parts: the manubrium, the sternal angle and the xyphoid process
Glial Cells
- Microglial cells are all glial cells of the PNS
Anatomy / Long Bone
- Of the following, epiphyseal plate would not be found in a long bone of your anatomy professor
Anatomy / Vertebrae
- The spinous process of C1 vertebrae projects posteriorly
Anatomy / Planes
- The frontal plane is the plane that divides the body or an organ into an anterior and posterior portion.
Anatomy / Superior
- The term superior describes a position or higher than another part of the body
Anatomy / Tibia
- The tibia is the lateral leg bone
Anatomy / DNA
-The four DNA bases are adenine, guanine, cytosine and uracil
Nerve Cells
- After the nerves cells relay information of Distension /Stimulus after you eat lunch to Sensors
Cartilage
- Hyaline cartilage is the most common type of cartilage.
Anatomy / Sella Turcica
- The Sella turcica is part of the Sphenoid bone.
Joint Classification
- Joint classification based on movement is not called classified to the structural
Body Function
- Skeletal muscles rarely relax completely
Movement
- Eversion is not a movement that involves the hands
Mechanical Protection
- The stratum corneum does provide a mechanical protection to the underlying layer
