Study Notes
Axillary Lines
- The Mid-Axillary Line (MAL) runs vertically along the anterior axillary fold formed by the pectoralis major muscle.
- The Posterior Axillary Line (PAL) is drawn vertically along the posterior axillary fold formed by the latissimus dorsi and teres major muscles.
Clavicle Line
- The Mid-Clavicular Line (MCL) is parallel to the AAL and passes through the midpoint of the clavicle.
Spinous Processes
- The Vertebral Line is a vertical line along the tips of the spinous processes of the vertebrae.
Scapular Lines
- The Scapular Lines are parallel to the posterior median line and intersect the inferior angles of the scapula.
Thorax
- The thorax is located between the neck and abdomen in the trunk.
- The components of the thorax are the thoracic cage, thoracic cavity, and organs within the thoracic cavity.
Vertebrae and Ribs
- The 2nd to 9th thoracic vertebrae have single facets for rib head.
- The True Ribs (1-7) attach directly to the sternum.
- The anatomical features of typical ribs are located at the thoracic vertebrae 2-9.
