- Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
- His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a well-known Hindi poet, and his mother, Teji Bachchan, was a Sikh from Faisalabad, now in Pakistan.
- Initially named Inquilaab, his name was later changed to Amitabh, meaning "the light that would never go off", at the suggestion of poet Sumitranandan Pant.
Acting Career
- Amitabh Bachchan made his film debut as a voice narrator in Mrinal Se's National Award-winning film Bhuvan Shome in 1969.
- He got his first acting role in 'Saat Hindustani' and won his first National Film Award for Best Newcomer.
- He starred in a number of films that became huge box-office hits, including 'Anand', 'Zanjeer', 'Deewar', and 'Sholay'.
- 'Sholay' became the highest-grossing film of all time in India, earning INR 2,36,45,00,000.
