Algebra is a branch of mathematics focused on using variables and other symbols to represent quantities and relationships between them. So if you saw an equation like 'a + b = c', solving it might mean figuring out what a, b and c could be so that they fit together correctly.

Alongside these basic concepts, there are further ones like simplifying expressions, multiplying monomials etc., all designed to help with problem-solving. But even with just knowing about variables and equations, understanding algebra gives you a powerful tool to solve problems mathematically.
