Transistors

• A type of semiconductor device that amplifies or switches electronic signals
• Consists of three layers of a semiconductor material, typically silicon
• Layers are:
  • Base: thin layer of p-type material
  • Collector: thicker layer of p-type material
  • Emitter: layer of n-type material
• Modes of operation:
  • Active mode: amplifies weak signals
  • Saturation mode: acts as a switch, fully on or off
  • Cutoff mode: acts as an open switch, no current flows
• Types of transistors:
  • Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT)
  • Field-Effect Transistor (FET)
  • Unijunction Transistor (UJT)

Semiconductors

• Materials with electrical conductivity between that of a conductor and an insulator
• Properties:
  • Can be doped with impurities to alter conductivity
  • Can be used to control the flow of electrical current
  • Can be used to amplify or switch electronic signals
• Types of semiconductors:
  • Intrinsic semiconductor: pure semiconductor material
  • Extrinsic semiconductor: doped semiconductor material
  • p-type semiconductor: doped with trivalent impurities, has excess holes
  • n-type semiconductor: doped with pentavalent impurities, has excess electrons

Diodes

• A type of semiconductor device that allows current to flow in one direction
• Types of diodes:
  • Rectifier diode: converts AC to DC
  • Zener diode: regulates voltage
  • LED (Light Emitting Diode): emits light when current flows
  • Photodiode: detects light and converts it to current
• Characteristics:
  • Forward bias: diode is conducting, allows current to flow
  • Reverse bias: diode is non-conducting, blocks current
  • Breakdown voltage: maximum reverse voltage before diode becomes conducting

ترانزستور

• نوع من الأجهزة شبه الموصلات التي تقوم بالتكبير أو التبديل للإشارات الإلكترونية
• يتكون من ثلاث طبقات من مادة شبه موصلة، عادة السيليكون
• الطبقات هي:
  • القاعدة: طبقة رقيقة من مادة p-نوع
  • جامع: طبقة سميكة من مادة p-نوع
  • مرسل: طبقة من مادة n-نوع

  • شبه موصلة خارجية: مادة شبه موصلة متسخة
  • شبه موصلة p-نوع: متسخة بمواد ثلاثية، لديها فائض من الثقوب
  • شبه موصلة n-نوع: متسخة بمواد خماسية، لديها فائض من الإلكترونات

ديودات

• نوع من الأجهزة شبه الموصلات التي تسمح بالتيار في اتجاه واحد
• أنواع الديودات:
