Study Notes
Side Slip Maneuver
- To enter a Side Slip, apply opposite rudder to the direction of the intended slip and bank the aircraft into the wind.
Slipping Turn
- To enter a Slipping Turn, apply rudder in the direction of the intended turn and increase the bank angle.
Forward Slip
- To enter a Forward Slip, apply opposite rudder to the direction of the slip and lower one wing to increase drag, using the correct attitude to control airspeed.
Spiral Dive
- To initiate a Spiral Dive, either increase power and simultaneously roll into a steep bank angle, then lower the nose, or set the airplane up into a nose-higher attitude simulating a stall, prior to the stall, drop the nose.
- Decrease power and apply opposite rudder to the direction of the spiral should not be done.
Forced Approach
- To execute a Forced Approach, reduce power and lower the nose to establish a glide, then select a suitable landing area.
- Applying full power and climbing to assess available emergency landing sites is not the recommended procedure.
