Study Notes
Fuel System Components
- Fuel cells, fuel selector valves, fuel filters, and electric fuel pumps are included in the fuel system
- Each wing nacelle contains a fuel cell with a capacity of 55 U.S. gallons, totaling 110 U.S. gallons
System Design
- The fuel system is independent, allowing each engine to operate from its own fuel supply
- A crossfeed connection allows fuel transfer from one wing to the opposite engine in case of an emergency
- Bladder type fuel cells are positioned in the wing nacelles behind the firewall
Fuel Flow and Monitoring
- Fuel pressure and flow indicators are located on the instrument panel for each system
- Fuel quantity gauges, located on the instrument panel, display the fuel remaining, transmitted from sending units in the wing fuel cells
- Fuel is drawn from the fuel cell through a finger screen to a selector valve near the airplane centerline
- From the selector valve, fuel flows through a filter, then to an electric pump and finally to the engine-driven pump, which pushes fuel to the carburetor or fuel servo
