SCRIPTED LESSONS 2024/2025 ACADEMIC SESSION
- Subject: Agricultural Science
- Class/Level: SS 2
- Term: First Term
- Week: 1
AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE - PLANT NUTRIENTS
- Lessons: Plant Nutrients and Nutrient Cycle
- Objectives: Students will be able to explain plant nutrients, macro nutrients (e.g., N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S), their functions, and deficiency symptoms (e.g., chlorosis, malformation of roots, stunted growth).
- Instructional Resources: Organic manure, chalkboard, textbook
- Lesson Procedure:
- Step 1: Identification of Prior Ideas: Discussion/small group work, presentation. Students answer questions about manure, compost, fertilizer, etc.
- Step 2: Main Lesson: Teacher explains plant nutrients and macro elements (Nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and sulfur). Students present examples and explain plant nutrients. Students observe nutrient deficiency symptoms in leaves.
- Step 3: Application (In-Class Exercises): Students categorize nutrient types and symptoms of deficiencies. Group presentations.
- Step 4: Evaluation: Students answer questions differentiating macro nutrients, stating their functions, and describing deficiency symptoms.
- Step 5: Assignment (Take Home/Further Practice): State the functions of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium. Give deficiency symptoms of N, P, and K.
MICRO NUTRIENTS
- Lessons: Micro Nutrients, Functions, and Deficiency
- Objectives: Students will be able to list micro nutrients, state their functions, and describe their deficiency symptoms.
- Instructional Resources: Pictures of plant leaves with deficiency symptoms, chalkboard, textbook.
- Lesson Procedure:
- Step 1: Identification of Prior Ideas: Teacher asks students to define plant nutrients and name examples of macro nutrients and students give responses.
- Step 2: Main Lesson: Teacher defines micro nutrients, explains their functions, and lists various deficiency symptoms.
- Step 3: Application (In-Class Exercises): Students present leaves with deficiency symptoms, describe various functions of micro elements.
- Step 4: Evaluation: Teacher asks about micro nutrients, their functions, and deficiency symptoms.
- Step 5: Assignment (Take Home): Students list 3 deficiency symptoms relating to lack of micro nutrients.
FACTORS AFFECTING PLANT NUTRIENT AVAILABILITY
- Lessons: Factors affecting the availability of plant nutrients
- Objectives: Students will be able to state the factors affecting the availability of plant nutrients, such as soil pH, nutrient concentration, oxidation, and crop removal.
- Instructional Resources: Chalkboard, chalk, textbooks, learner's notes
- Lesson Procedure:
- Step 1: Identification of Prior Ideas: Students give examples of macro and micro nutrients.
- Step 2: Main Lesson: Teacher explains factors influencing nutrient availability. This includes soil pH, concentration of other nutrients, oxidation, and crop removal
- Step 3: Application (In-Class Exercises): Detailed discussions on the topic with student participation.
- Step 4: Evaluation: Teacher asks students about five factors affecting nutrient availability and asks students to explain two of the factors.
- Step 5: Assignment (Take Home/Further Practice): Writing a term paper on how soil pH, temperature, and soil texture affect the availability of plant nutrients.
